Why Warren works this way

The ideas behind Warren, plainly stated.

Decks, not word lists

A word list gives you many words and little language. A deck is a real situation: the sentences people actually say there, with meaning, grammar and tone together.

At a petrol station, paying went exactly as practised:

Tutto? — Sì, tutto. Devo pagare? — Qui o alla cassa? — Sì, dentro alla cassa.

Then the attendant wanted to explain that a wiper seal was broken — nothing any deck had prepared for.

Non capisco...

That answer is the real skill: not pretending, not freezing, but naming the gap in the language. A conversation from any card practises exactly that.

The method

Reviews follow SM-2, the same method as Anki and SuperMemo. About 20 new cards a day is what people keep — more only builds a mountain of reviews.

Fast, Mastery, Confidence

Fast: day one and decks made of sentences, ready to practise. Skill: progress by concept, not by number of reviews. Confidence: whether a conversation kept going despite the gaps.
